brief
Create an audiovisual narrative in computer-generated worlds with a transdisciplinary team of students. In the process, you will learn important storytelling tools and use cutting-edge technology such as motion tracking and virtual reality.
About
Over the course of a semester, our team composed a unique story
set in a fictional world, culminating in a 12-minute animated
short film. Every member of the group helped shape the
worldbuilding, characters, and the story. Some were tasked with
the film's visual identity, others with writing the script;
everyone took on different roles, and some even moved between
departments over time.
I took on several roles throughout the
project. At first, I was part of a five-person team where we built
the world, defined the characters, and wrote the script. Once we
moved into production, I focused on character design ...
particularly "Harold Weinberg," a giant snail fighting
for his tribe, while also modeling, rigging and texturing a large
number of 3D assets. Alongside this, a small group of us, myself
included, trained in acting so we could animate our characters
using Rokoko suits via motion capture. I took on the role of
Harold myself, which was challenging but a lot of fun.
Concept
The world of the film is defined by a fight for water. Rather than descending into world war, the upper class created the Glory-Pit, an arena where elected heroes fight on behalf of their faction to win water rights. Over time, these showdowns evolved beyond simple duels into a global live-streamed spectacle, prized for entertainment and prestige. The entire system run by nothing more than a TV producer and a robot.
